The Chilton Country Pub and Hotel at Fencehouses in Tyne and Wear combines a traditional English pub with a modern hotel.  It serves mainly British cooking with some European cuisine.

Its decor is modern country pub with flagstones and crisp fresh linen to reflect its business-like feel.

There is a friendly, efficient staff who offer a brisk and fresh service.

One delicious starter is the egg and prawn salad with a plentitude of prawns beside salad leaves, capsicum, red onion and cherry tomatoes.  The sweet chilli cod and salmon fishcakes are equally tempting.

Many diners opt for the rustic Hungarian goulash with dumplings and chucky vegetables.

The lemon and thyme chicken breasts with a mixture of al dente vegetables in a rich port wine sauce are to die for.

A strawberry cheesecake on a crunchy biscuit base makes and excellent dessert.  There is also a very god chunky apple pie.
