Colman’s Fish and Chip Restaurant, South Shields

A review of the prize-winning Colman’s Fish and Chip Restaurant in South Shields.

MANY of my Friends who adore fish and chips regularly travel the 12 miles between Chester le Street and South Shields to get their favourite meal at Colman’s.

This award winning fish restaurant on Ocean Road uses only local freshly caught fish, bought from the Fish Quay each morning.

Its decor is white tiles with black granite and lobster pots and other fishing equipment in hanging nets. It is always clean and sparkling.

There is always and warm and friendly welcome at Colman’s and the service is fast, friendly and efficient.

The cod and chips or haddock and chips are served piping hot and in gargantuan portions.  They are accompanied by a traditional North-eastern mini-stottie and served with a ramekin of mushy peas, wedge of fresh lemon or pot of tartare sauce, according to the customer’s taste.

Desserts are available for anyone who still has room for more food.  They include apple crumble and custard or treacle sponge, which are as filling as the main piscine meals.

The restaurant is open from 11:00 to 17:30 (last orders) on seven days a week.

Colman’s has adequate street parking right outside and is fully accessible to the disabled.

It can be contacted on 0191 456 1202.

UI have wanted to vist this place for a whie now and did so Monday 11th May.The quality was outstanding but the waitresses could have smiled a bit more. There was no warmth as the North-east is famous for and in these dark days of creit crunch I think it is of paramount importance if one wants to stay in front of the opposition.
If only we could get that quality where Im live now
