Info of Humber Bridge.
Did you know that 120,000 vehicles cross the Humber Bridge each week! Also the Humber Bridge has fifth largest span in the world.
The Humber Bridge is a suspension bridge located in Yorkshire and Lincolnshire, England. The bridge goes over the Humber River which is port for many ships. The Humber Bridge is 2220m long and has a span of 1410m.
The bridge is mostly made of steel. The cables are steel wire, the deck is steel, the suspenders are steel wire, and the towers are reinforced concrete.
The bridge is used as a motorway/ freeway. It carries cars/ trucks, motorbikes and even bicycles. It cost £2.70 for cars, £1.20 for bikes, and £18.00 for delivery trucks.
The bridge was built July 17 1981. It was built to make it quicker to get from one side of the Humber to the other. It would be a 60km+ drive to get to the other side. But with the bridge it would be a 2km+ drive.
I think that the Humber Bridge is a suspension bridge because if they used another bridge, like a beam bridge, there would be support beams all along the bottom of the bridge. This would cause a problem because the beams would become an obstacle for supply boats. A suspension bridge doesn’t need support beams. The cables hold the bridge up so that there is no need for support beams.
Do you think you could build such a successful bridge as the Humber Bridge?
