A review of the Lennoxlove Hotel, East Lothian.

LENNOXLOVE House in East Lothian is a luxury 11-bed hotel, set in a historic house, parts of which date back to the 14th Century. It offers the best in Scottish historic country houses. The building, which started life as a fortified tower against the invading English armies as been in turn a country retreat and a family home.

It contains many historic artefacts, ranging from the bed and death mask of Mary, Queen of Scots to a piano that was once played by Chopin. Guests are able to visit the atmospheric chapel and eerie dungeon.

However Lennoxlove House has moved into the 21st Century with broadband connections, conference facilities and a heli-pad.

All the bedrooms are luxuriously furnished and many have balconies, which overlook the manicured gardens.

Meals are served in the Great Hall, with its stone walls and vaulted ceilings, which reflect the candlelight. Dinner is often fillet of beef carpaccio, baked sea bass with roasted fennel and saffron mash. There is wonderful scented pavlova of blackberries with a grape and cherry compote. All this is accompanied by champagne.

An enormous Scottish breakfast on the following morning will set the visitor up for a full range of activities.

These include the absorbing tour of the house and grounds, clay pigeon shooting with lasers instead of shotguns, off-road driving, quad biking or a champagne tasting session in the Oak Rooms with walls that are absolutely lined with books.

Nearby is the new and very exclusive Renaissance Golf Course with its views of the scenic East Lothian Coastline, the Firth of Forth and Arthur’s Seat.

Lennoxlove House is the ultimate word in Scottish Luxury and can be contacted on 01620 823720.
