Madame Tussauds.
You can not talk about one of London’s most famous wax museums in the world now operate in five different cities: London, New York, Las Vegas, Amsterdam, Hong Kong Madame Tussauds.
First, a historical view is a must to really understand who the character who gave the green light to all this, and how it was done.
Madame Tussauds, the founder of the museum, really existed. Of Alsatian origin, his real name was Marie Grosholz was born in 1761 in Strasbourg and died in 1850 in London.
He learned the art of wax modeling in France by Dr. Philippe Curtius he held from 1770 exhibits of wax models in Paris.
So it was that Marie created her first wax figures of famous philosophers such as Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Voltaire and figures like Benjamin Franklin.
Even during the French Revolution Marie shaped heads of sovereignty and revolutionaries beheaded by guillotine.
When her mentor and a teacher died after Marie left the entire collection of wax models, which, moved to England two years later, and after her marriage to François Tussuad which later took the name, began to carry around with carts and caravans his collection for the entire city.
Such interest to the public, and from year to year, new designs were added, arising from work and inspiration of this hardworking woman.
So it was that in the first half of the 800 gave birth to the first permanent exhibition of his statues, right there where today there is the famous museum of which we speak, at the intersection of Baker Street and Marylene Street.
Even today there are sculptures made by Madame Tussuad’s.
Upon entering, one is immediately impressed by the crowd of tourists who alternates along the central staircase leading to the elevators. Must wait a while before they can go and get himself in person in the museum.
The first room you come across, great, the “Garden Party” plays like a famous star party, where you can run into Tom Cruise, the trio Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie and Jennifer Aniston, Julia Roberts, Robbie Williams, Madonna.
Continuing the recommended route, we encounter in the cinema hall, where stands a while Anthony Hopkins is going down a staircase, a Michael Jackson who looks at you while she performs, or 007, to choose between Sean Connery and Pierce Brosnan.
And so it continued, sports personalities and politics, moving among members of the royal family or the great geniuses of history, giving an eye to passing the statue of Madame Tussauds.
A trip of more than 400 statues, life size, which can approach, touch, hug and kiss, putting even walked with them for photos.
Eyes that you stare, hieratic poses and exhibitions, hands resting on hips or leaning … but still believable.
Included in the ticket price is the “Spirit of London”, that is the Spirit of London. We will do so a taxi ride through the various historical periods in London, a journey of nearly 400 years, passing from the Industrial Revolution, through the construction of Big Ben and the fire of London in 1666, until the 80s, the advent disco music …
Too bad the sound does not understand Italian, and sometimes the journey is so interesting and well constructed.
One thing must-see, but not included in the ticket, so you must pay extra, is the “Chamber Live.” A path, dark, lasting 10 minutes, but very exciting. Reproduction of different sites of horror films in which actors in the flesh hidden in the shadows just waiting to see you go, a little scared to approach by stealth and frightened. One can recognize Hannibal, the protagonist of Gothic, and various other characters as famous as appalling.
Finally, this is also not included in the ticket, you can visit the Planetarium, which simulates a journey through the constellations and planets (although, I must tell the truth, after passing through the Chamber Live, the Planetarium was found to be very boring ).
In short, a fundamental and inevitable step in our journey through the city, a little crazy, a little city, which is London.
The ticket price may seem a bit expensive at first glance, but it is really worth.
The statues are very well done, the characters seem real, and looking into his eyes close at some point you wonder if they are “just” real. The only flaw is that the photos are slightly glossy and lost some fascination view of the person.
As mentioned, being able to drop the Planetarium if you do not want to spend too much, it is instead the inevitable Chamber Live, 10 minutes of pure terror.
A tip: if you want to save, armed with credit card and enter the site of the museum. You can buy a ticket in Italy, both for the only museum, both for extras, at highly discounted prices (10%).
So you can also avoid the queues at the entrance to make and pay for your ticket at the moment.
