Clay Pigeon Shooting at Otterburn.
CLAY pigeon shooting is an exhilarating sport, which demands an exciting combination of quick reactions with superb eye and hand coordination. It appeals to both men and women of all ages. Otterburn sporting clays was established to provide both safe training for perfect novices and practice facilities for more experienced shooters.
Otterburn Sporting Clays treats safety as its primary aim and the experienced Shoot Manager ensures that beginners have a safe and enjoyable day, while progressing at their own rate without any pressure. He helps them to build up their confidence and achieve scores that they never thought possible.
This exciting activity takes place in a beautiful and historic part of Northumberland. However, one word of warning. No one has ever been able to guarantee Northumberland’s changeable weather. Shooters are advised to suitable footwear and carry warm, waterproof clothing.
Otterburn Sporting Clays also provides various activities for non-shooters. There are quad bike tours of the Northumberland National Park. The ranger can transport disable visits to see the history, burns, waterfalls and wildlife on this countryside safari.
Walkers are able to stroll along the newly created Otterburn Trail: a circular route lasting one hour, watching the flora, fauna and the history of Wild Redesdale, an area that was once the domain of the Border Raiding Families.
The 1388 battlefield of Otterburn, celebrated in ballads, is just a few yards north of Girsonfield Far, home of Otterburn Sporting Clays.
After all this activity, visitors can enjoy a meal and other hospitality in Otterburn Tower Hotel, once a border stronghold. They can also stay overnight there if they have planned an extended visit.
Girsonfield Farm is ½ mile east of the centre of Otterburn on the A696 Newcastle upon Tyne to Jedburgh road over Carter Bar.
