SIX RESTAURANT, BALTIC
MANY people visit the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art on Gateshead Quays each year. Now the Six Restaurant on the Centre’s sixth floor offers modern British cuisine at its innovative best.
Two glazed sides offer magnificent views over Tyneside to diners. It decor is neutral paintwork and chrome with dark floorboards. The service staff have an easy confidence combined with impeccable timing.
A lot of diners start with the chilli salt-fried squid with an Asian dipping sauce. Others opt for the grilled goats’ cheese with poached baby pears and pickled walnuts.
The lamb shank with mash is very popular and the pan-fried sea bass on a vodka risotto and crispy rocket is to die for. Both of these meals are served with dente beans, courgettes, mangetout and broccoli.
Six Restaurant serves an excellent lemon posset with berries and shortcake. The slices of caramelised pineapple in a spun sugar basket on a sponge cake pedestal with strawberries and cream are excellent.
The restaurant is open from noon to 14:30 and 17:30 to 21:00 on Mondays to Thursdays, noon to 14:30 to 14:30 and 17:30 to 21:30 on Fridays and Saturdays and noon to 16:00 on Sundays.
There is a large car park nearby and Six Restaurant, which can be contacted on 0191 440 4948, is fully accessible to disabled customers
