The chocolate bread and butter pudding is always scrumptious.

Standing on the outskirts of the Northumberland Park, the Barrasford Arms in North Tynedale is in a beautiful part of the county.  This sandstone country inn, which has oodles of charm and warmth is in the centre of the village.

The bustling bar, which has loads of atmosphere, is relaxed and friendly while the staff offer an efficient, yet informal service.

It has an ivory and mushroom decor, which is warmed up by the red upholstery. There is a large mirror stretching from the mantlepiece to the ceiling and some stunning modern artwork.

The cuisine is modern British and chef Tony Binks offers five selections in each course.

His prawn cocktail is a delight. It is prawns served with a fresh Jack Daniels Marie Rose sauce and paprika on diced cucumber and cherry tomatoes.  The garlic and tarragon creamed mushrooms on toast is a real winter warmer.

Many diners opt for the lamb shank infused with garlic and rosemary and served with herb potato.

The chocolate bread and butter pudding is always scrumptious. Tony also produces a masterpiece in his soft pistachio pavlova with vanilla mascarpone.

Barrasford is north of Hexham on the A6079 road.

The Barrasford Arms is open from 18:30- to 21:00 on Mondays to Saturday. Noon until 14:00 on Saturdays and noon to 15:00 on Sundays.

There is car parking outside and it is fully accessible for disabled diners.

The Barrasford Arms can be contacted on 01434 681237.
