The London Eye

The London eye overlooks the sprawling city of London, this new monument so widely known; yet so young. It is not only the pride of Britain, but the pride of the entire Europe. It was built to be the world biggest observation wheel, and still is. It was made in parts, the steel and wiring was supplied from the UK, the cables came from Italy, and the ‘egg’ capsules from France.

It has not had any significant events in its life, apart from an electrical change, where all the tube lights were replaced with LED’s. It was also renamed to The Merlin’s Entertainments London Eye, to boost the popularity of the company that owned it.

It is situated next to the River Thames, and is a stop on the River cruise of the Thames. It is also within walking distance to Big Ben and quite close to the tower bridge. The River cruise also takes you to the O2 arena, Millennium Foot Bridge, the Houses of Parliament and Canary wharf.

The easiest and most popular way to get there is by tube, which is just opposite the Thames and close to Westminster Bridge. Waterloo underground station is the closest stop to the London eye on the tube and it is on the Northern line, which is easily accessible from all parts of London.

This ‘bike wheel’ structure has a big part in the wonders of London and is a must see for all tourists.
