A review of the Sun Inn and Horseshoe Inn in the Scottish Borders.
TWO BORDER HOTELS.
THE English/Scottish Borderlands are among some the most scenic landscapes in the world. Visitors to the region find it difficult to believe that this now peaceful countryside was once the haunt of legendary border raiders, reivers or moss-troopers who soaked the area in blood and wrote the names and deeds in history, legend, poetry and literature.
Many people come here looking for places to stay while they explore the area. The Sun Inn at Dalkeith and the Horseshoe Inn at Eddleston, near Peebles both make excellent bases.
The Sun Inn has six bedrooms with plasma TV. There are huge four-poster beds in the luxurious rooms and the en-suite bathrooms have copper slipper baths, monsoon showers and separate dressing rooms. The restaurant has the feel of a traditional inn with log fires, exposed stone, rustic beams and a quirky fish motif wallpaper. Booking is on 0131 633 2456
The Horseshoe Inn is basically a restaurant with rooms. The Barboulet’s Restaurant has won many awards and possesses three AA stars. There are eight four star bedrooms, which are decorated on a sumptuous gold and yellow theme. It is a wonderful spot for lovers of the great outdoors, especially walkers and cyclists.
