Valley Indian Restaurant, Corbridge

A review of an Indian Restaurant in Northumberland.

THE Valley Indian Restaurant is in the Old Railway Station House at Corbridge in the Tyne Valley.  It is an ideal venue for train-lovers as they can watch the engines on the Newcastle to Carlisle line as they dine.

Visitors are welcomed by a warm seat near the open fire in the cosy bar.  The Valley has an immaculately turned out staff, who are extremely well-trained.

The decor is beech wood with cream and gold and a carmine and gold carpet.

One popular started is the varkee grilled green pepper, stuffed with prawns and served in a spicy sauce. Many less adventurous diners opt for the lentil soup that is served with a generous wedge of bread.

Lamb Gosth, a dish that has been added fairly recently to the Valley’s menu is slow-cooked chunks of lamb, coated in a rich ghee-glossy sauce with nutty chickpeas. One regular customer recommended the Murgh Amchur: softly cooked breast meat with a generous portion of juicy mango poached in the sauce.

The Valley serves such hearty portions that many diners find that they have no room for a dessert.

Corbridge is around 20 miles from Newcastle upon Tyne and the Valley is open from 18:00 to 23:00 on Mondays to Saturdays.

There is adequate car parking immediately outside the railway station and the Passage to India Express runs to Corbridge from Newcastle. It is possible to study the meal and order meals in advance on this train.  Occasionally this train is met by a piper and the diners are piped into the restaurant. Unfortunately the Valley is not accessible to the disabled.

The Valley can be contacted on 01434 633434.
