Visit Hertford, England

Hertford is a delightful market town just 30 miles north of London. It is a town steeped in history from its beginnings before the Norman Conquest in 1066.

Travelling to Hertford is very easy. Trains leave from London Kings Cross or Liverpool Street stations. By road, the A414 and A10 take you directly to Hertford, just a short journey from the A1.

Once you are in Hertford, there are many sights to see. Many of the buildings in the town centre date back to the 17th century and a walk through the town takes you past a wealth of historic architecture.

One of the most prominent features in Hertford is the castle. The building now referred to as Hertford Castle was actually a gate house to the castle on the premises. The grounds make for a beautiful site for a walk or picnic at lunchtime and there are regular events held on site.

St Andrews church and All Saints church are also sights worth a visit for those interested in the historic architecture in the town. Both churches are steeped in history and offer the visitor an interesting chance to see the religious buildings and stained glass windows.

Hertford museum, located near the town centre, offers a fascinating insight into the history of the town as well as hosting regular events and exhibitions on a variety of topics. Just around the corner you can also find the Hertfordshire Gallery, within Hertfordshire Graphics, which showcases the works of many local artists and photographers.

Within Hertford you will find a wealth of cafes, restaurants, bars and pubs. Whether you are looking for a quiet pint, a quick bite to eat or a big curry after busy day you can find it all within easy reach.

Hertford is a beautiful destination for a relaxed day out and an opportunity to experience one of the countries historic towns.
