The Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island is Closed for the Season
The Grand Hotel just completed its 122nd successful year of operation. The AAA four-diamond Grand closed for the season on October 27, and will reopen with limited service (rooms only) on April 23 and full service (dinner and breakfast included) on May 7, 2010. Those who enjoy a pleasantly quiet environment, and a reduced room rate, should look into the April booking opportunity.

Teaching English in a Foreign Country
America might not be as influential in the world as it used to be. The times when ‘Coca Cola’ stood for a whole culture have long gone. And economically the US is still the biggest economy, but serious competitors have entered the scene, like China, for example.
Living and Working Abroad
This is not going to be some theoretical piece about how you might do if you decide to live and work abroad. I’ve been ‘doing it’ for almost 30 years now, it was in 1980 that I left my home country, Germany, and in all humility, I am an expert. I have spent seven month in India, lived three years in Greece, another three years in England, and I have been living in Mexico for the past 20 years. The years in between I roamed the world.

Fribourg: City on The Language Divide of Switzerland
The city of Fribourg is located only 20 miles from Berne, but is today mainly French speaking though it started out as a German speaking city. It boasts the only Catholic University in Switzerland and has retained its medieval character throughout the city to this day. If you want to get a feeling for the lifestyle 600 years back, this is the place to visit.
Teacher Jobs Abroad
The way I see it, being a teacher is not only a profession, but a vocation. All professions I consider a vocation, like that of a musician to name just another example, involve activities that are based on an inherent talent of the person. Sure, there are thousands of teachers who took up that profession simply because it was convenient to do so, or it was the closest the person could think of as a profession, or maybe dad was a teacher, you name it. They are the reasons why most people choose any job, any profession.
Devil’s Town and The Village of Blood
The locals believed for centuries that they were formed when devils fought for supremacy. In fact their origins are much more down to earth – literally. Take a trip to devil’s town, a peculiar place if ever there was one.
