A Preserved Railway Amid Beautiful Countryside

I am very lucky to live in Northamptonshire, England surrounded by some beautiful countryside. My favourite place to walk is the Brampton Valley Way, I always take my camera because there is so much to see.

Not far from our home is the Brampton Valley Way a fourteen mile long linear park providing a lovely rural walk along the route of the old railway line between Northampton and Market Harborough in Leicestershire. The route is flat and is ideal for walkers and for cyclists.

The route has the added attraction of running alongside the Northampton and Lamport Railway so my husband has plenty to keep him interested. The line closed in 1981, several years later the preserved railway opend and it has gradually grown since that time.

I like to visit the railway too, but my husband and I are interested in different aspects of railway history, I am interested in freight transport and I like railway architecture. On our last walk we saw a very nice newly painted coal truck, but my favourites were all in need of some serious tender loving care, a horsebox, a cattle wagon and a very sad looking newspaper van.

I enjoy taking photos from unusual angles and I like the fact that I can walk at track level and I am able to see bits of the under carriage that would normally be hidden from sight by the platform, I am not sure that photos of bogies and controls are of interest to many people, but I have to admit to being boring!

It is good to get out and walk in the countryside, it blows your cares away, it gives you time to talk and to just enjoy being together. I always feel better after a long walk.

This was wonderful, Frances and such a beautiful countryside. I wonder do they allow one woman and her horse along this path?
Just beautiful there.

Yes, I used to keep my horse near there and there are some wonderful bridle paths, and woodland,so there are lots of interesting rides.

We have a walk where the old rail road used to be. It goes through about three counties and is called “the Silver Comet”
Yours is certainly beautiful.
