Nepal can be called the paradise of adventure lovers. The country hosts almost eight highest peaks out of 14 in the world. Fast flowing rivers, snow capped mountains, soothing climates, scenic beauties are the things that provide ideal places for tracking, rafting, paragliding, hot air ballooning, bungee jumping and mountain biking.
Hot air ballooning- Although it is the most resent adventure started in Nepal (in the year 2000), hot air ballooning became very popular in short period. Although it would be wrong to say that the popularity of hot air ballooning has replaced the traditional adventures such as tracking and mountain biking but definitely it has attracted more tourists. One can enjoy the hot ballooning best between the months October and March. During these months the country has clear sky and soothing climate. For a bird’s eye view of the valleys, people prefer this adventure because neither it has the hammering sound of planes nor any obstacle in photography. The only thing that does not happen according to the riders is that the flight of hot air ballooning heavily depends on wind’s direction and velocity. Bhaktapur, which is one of the historic towns of Nepal, is the most popular sight where most of flights take off.
Paragliding- It is for those who wish to fly like eagle in the open sky. Imaginations get wing when some one decides to paraglide in Nepal. This sport is relatively new in this country but is being popular in recent years. Pokhara valley is the place from where it can be managed. And it is Sarangkot hill from where the flight takes off and lands on the Coast of Phewa Lake. Although paragliding can also be done in Katmandu valley but the weather conditions are far more constant in Pokhara.
Bungee jumping- Bungee jumping was introduced in the country due to the growing demand by the tourists. As the country has ideal conditions for this wild jumping adventure, the sport gained popularity soon after it was started. Nepal’s first bungee jumping site is located close to Nepal- Tibet border and situated at a height of 160 meters over the river Bhoti Koshi. The agency that operates this adventure is much concerned about the safety norms and provides the guidance of some of most experienced jump masters.
Mountain biking- From one speed Indian bicycle to 15 to 8 gears all terrain bikes all are available here on rent and with guides. Although motorcycling is comparatively the easier way to see more sights in less time but paddling on uneven hilly roads has its own adventure. The most popular classic off-road adventure that starts from Balaju to the west Katmandu transverses Shiv puri, Trisuli bazaar and the hill resort of Kakani, ancient townships of Bhakta pur, Namobuddha and Panaunti and descend back to Katmandu. Another route that is slightly longer and more adventurous is biking on Tribhuvan highway and finally ending at the hill resort of Daman (south east of Katmandu).
Rafting- Nepal’s fast flowing rivers have never ending sources of water as they are feed by the springs originating in mighty mountains and the glaciers of Himalayas. Out of 14 highest peak in the world (above 8,000 meters), Nepal alone have 8 that make the river fast flowing and the ideal destination for rafting or white water surfing. Rafting through beautiful countryside gives a chance to get an essence of Nepal. Some rivers that are much popular among the white water adventure lovers are Karnali (in western part of Nepal), Sun Koshi (in eastern part), Kali, Gandaki, Seti, Bhoti Koshi, Tamur and Trisuli.
