Understanding Dolphins

Your Spring Break Dolphin Tips.

I’ve learned alot from my disabled wife.  She grew up in Florida around dolphins, and had the chance as a child growing up, to hang out with a true live dolphin instructor.  I know it’s time for Spring Break and down here in Aransas Pass.   In  the short time that we’ve lived here, I’ve noticed several dolphin tour boats that take you out and get you closer to the dolphins.  My wife informed me of how you can call a dolphin in.  For most, probably don’t know and neither did I that you can really call them in.  It won’t work too good from a boat if it’s moving because dolphins get spooked at something moving too fast.  If you’re down here for Spring  Break or on a beach somewhere, try calling in a dolphin.  It’s a tiresome  process and I had my disbeliefs at first until my wife and I were sitting on a rocky boulder edge next to some deeper water, this is when she showed me how to call dolphins in and I’ll be darned to my surprise here they came.   Follow these techniques, sit down, be calm, dolphins sense fear like any other animal.  You have to show the dolphin you’re interested in them.  This is a tiresome  process at first and you need real good vocals.  The sounds that dolphins make, the eeh eeh sound, all you have to do is make that eeh eeh sound and literally talk to them, start clapping your hands when you do the eeh eeh sound, even though you can’t see them, you might think they are not paying any attention to you, then out of the blue here they come.  It’s good to have some kind of food on hand like mullet, that is their favorite, the combination of the eeh eeh sound, clapping of the hands and telling them to come here attracts the dolphins to investigate.  Once they see and hear you and you finally see them, keep doing the same routines.  Don’t stop doing those routines.  They’ll go under and come back up, you would think like I said they are ignoring you, they aren’t.  When you think they aren’t paying any attention and you think they are ignoring you, the rewards are pretty cool.  When you see one surfacing and coming your way, keep up the good work, don’t spook them with sudden movements and I guarantee you if you try real hard, you might get to pet one.  Not all dolphins are responsive to this method and some might shy away, for the most part, most are responsive.  It’s not a good idea at all to jump in with them at first until they get to know you.  Just remember to do the same routine and you’ll see the rewards.  Happy Spring Break and may the dolphins find you.   That’s my wife’s dolphin tip.  JG
