Checkpoint Friendly Laptop Bags

by Hollie Domiano on 23/10/08 at 2:49 am

A description of the TSA’s new regulations regarding laptop bags.

You’re going through airport security. The screeners required that you take your laptop out of its bag and place it into a separate bin as to have an unobstructed view on the X-ray screens.

Not any more.

On August 16, 2008, the TSA started allowing specially designed laptop bags through the screening process. These bags would allow you to pass through the checkpoints without taking the laptop out of the bag, thus reducing the chance for theft.

Bags that are allowed are ones which open butterfly style or trifold style. Laptop sleeves are also allowed. A sleeve is an envelope-like bag which will enclose the laptop. These bags must fold out to include the laptop in a separate compartment by itself.

What isn’t allowed are backpacks and accordion style bags.

Checkpoint friendly laptop bags can be found at Aerovation or eBags.

Happy traveling!
