The Pleasures and Dangers of Air Travel

Airplanes, helicopters and many other such air-borne machines have indeed revolutionised the travel industry.

Air travel, since its introduction, has greatly progressed and developed significantly.  Most of the people now prefer to travel in an aeroplane due to the various pleasures provided but some still fear to do so because they think that air travel is not free of dangers.

The first pleasure that air travel offers to its passengers is linked to the fact that air travel is up to now the fastest means of transport and communication.  I do not think someone would really like to spend one whole month aboard an aircraft – not that it is not well-equipped – but they would want to arrive as quickly as possible at their destination.  Along with speed, air travel has also in some sort fulfilled that ‘impossible’ wish of man; that to fly.  The aircraft glides through the clouds, zooms up and down as does the birds in the sky.  It is truly a great pleasure for people to ‘experience’ a flight.

Actually, passenger-carrying airplanes are made for the pleasure of the customers mainly.  As example, the latter are welcome by air hostesses who make them feel comfortable and are present during the trip at their service.  Dishes prepared by various stewards are served on time also.  The passengers have a day-to-day menu and can order whatever they like; nobody will refuse it.

Another type of pleasure given to passengers is entertainment.  Be it through television, radio or magazines, the choices spread are versatile.  In other words, at any time of the day, during flight, a person can watch his favourite film, listen to any song or get his weekly magazine when he wants.  A free introduction to the several compartments of the airplane is offered to the children especially.  For their pleasure, they are even allowed in the cockpit where they get to meet the pilot and see him at work.

However, air travel is jeopardy as it has been shown in many cases.  Crashes of aeroplanes are increasing day by day.  Some may be caused by the imprudence of pilots, others may be due to some technical defects or it may occur because of bad weather conditions.  In those nightmarish events, thousands of individuals have lost their lives just in a couple of seconds.  No wonder, some persons still think twice before undertaking any air voyage.

The danger of being hijacked must not be overlooked nowadays.  It has become a habit of certain gangsters to hijack a plane and ask for a ransom otherwise they will start killing the children aboard.  Therefore many say it is better to make a world tour via the TV.

But what can we do?  God has created flowers with thorns, made sorrow and happiness; so pleasure must be accompanied by danger.  The adventurous ones face it while others ignore it.
