Living in Villages, Why Not?

Students studying in cities do not now much about how farmers plant rice, how people milk cows etc. It is the way how they learn.

Students who study in cities do not know much about villagers’ life. They do not know how farmers plant rice. They  do not know how people milk cows. They do not know how the rice to their cities. Even they do not care about  the fruit they usually buy at the supermarkets are cultivated by the farmers who live  in villages.

This makes teachers at some Indonesian schools come up with an idea to send senior high school students to live  in villages for few days. They will stay  together with some farmer families. Not only do thet stay  do they stay together, but also do they take aparts in accomplishing their host parents’ daily activities.

When the father, usually as the breadwinner, goes to the ricefiled they will accompany him to go there. When he cuts grass for the cows’ feed, they will work together with finishing that job. When he looks for some wood in the forest, they will also go together. When the mother cooks in the kitcheen, the girl students may help her wash the vegeteables or make the table

.

By doing so, the students will learn lots of things about the farmers’ life. They will learn new experiences to manage day-to-day activities in villages together with people in their surroundings. Moreover, they will practice getting socialized with people from a different bacground.

What more important of the ‘living in village activity’ is arouzing students’ awareness about the farmers’ life and making new friend with them.
