What you need for the road trip.
The road trip. Everyone has taken one, or will take one, during some point of their life. But for those who haven’t been fortunate enough to embark on a road trip, here are a few things a traveler should know about before they begin one. First of all, the proper road trip crew needs to be recruited. Now, a lot of the decision on the crew depends on the final destination of the trip and the distance.
Assuming the destination is an exciting and enjoyable one, like sunny Florida or California, it is important to build a crew of people who are excited about reaching those particular destinations. The second part of that is making sure you and the rest of the crew can tolerate each other for an extended period of time. Of course there is bound to be moments were it gets a little intense, but a little intensity is completely common.
Secondly, having a game plan is extremely important. Things like: who drives first and for how long? How will gas be paid for? When do you stop and rest? Or what kind of sight seeing will be done are all important matters to take care of, before, the trip begins. Now will these ideas change? Most likely but they should be decided upon before the trip begins if only to have a guideline to go by.
Once the trip begins, it is always essential to stop by a convenience store or grocery store to bet the proper food and snack items. The snack choices are totally at each person’s discretion. Things like chips, drinks, some candy, and snack cakes are the usual type of road trip foods. It is also a good idea, if one wants to save on food, to get bread ans sandwich meat to keep in a cooler, with condiments of course. This way, when someone needs more than a snack cake or they want a sandwich to go with those chips, they have the option to make themselves a cheap meal that saves cash and the crew can continue to travel because there was no need to stop for food.
The third aspect of the road trip essentials is the trinkets and busy items aspect. It is important to have the appropriate materials to help pass the time because conversation and music can only last for so long in appropriate time frames. This is where magazines, hand held games, a writing pad, crossword and word finds, cellphone games or just a good book comes in handy. You know, sometimes you just get tired of talking and on a long road trip, you can only talk about so much so you need a little break in the conversation, and that is where the trinkets and gadgets come into play. On that same note of passing the time, playing car games are always fun. Games such as “I spy” , “That’s My Car” or “Punch Buggy” never get old!
Last but certainly not least, enjoy yourself. You are spending time together with some of your best friends, family or both, and it’s important to have fun and be yourself. Spending time with each other in a different atmosphere under a different set of circumstances is what the road trip is really all about. So have fun, enjoy each others company and when you think you need to fill up with gas, you probably should! And one more thing…..DON’T FORGET THE MAP!
