The alternative holiday – camping.
If you have a zest for adventure and you like a challenge. Try camping. This is a unique and inexpensive way to have a holiday. With a few good friends and the right attitude it can be a memorable and affordable trip.
It all starts with the tent. You don’t need an eight sleeper, zero water absorption, state of the art tent. Just an average tent that is an average size. Once you have this you have covered your most valuable camping tool. With your mobile home you can set up wherever you feel comfortable within the perimeter of the campsite. Essential items thereafter include clothes, food, sleeping bag and a torch. Anything more after that is asking for luxury.
If you have never been camping before it should be an exceptional experience. Expect muddy stained shoeprints everywhere if it has been raining, bugs and furry looking worms in the tent and the morning sunrise converting your home into a sauna. If you are careless and leave the mosquito net unzipped do not be surprised when you wake up feeling like you’ve caught chicken pox. You should know the people that you will be camping with. Be on a comfortable level with them because chances are you will be after the trip. Be prepared to hear snoring, tossing and turning and the odd occasion of someone talking in their sleep.
You can explore the area by taking long walks. Stopping occasionally to observe your surroundings and even have a picnic. If you are passionate about photography why not take a couple of shots of the landscape and the resort. Try camping at a resort with various activities such as mountain bike trails and some hiking if possible. If your adrenalin is not up for that you can always opt for spending the day at the resort pool. Tanning, swimming and having fun in the sun. After the sun has gone down, things can begin to feel a bit gloomy and creepy. Especially if you’ve selected the isolated spot at the very end of the campsite. Keep high in spirits, light a fire and watch the naked sky overflowing with the African stars.
If you have trouble sleeping on the hard ground and your sleeping bag isn’t cutting it for you there is always the alternative of having a few drinks to ease you up. If you have more than a few drinks chances are when you hit the ground you wont feel a thing.
In this complicated lifestyle we have become accustomed to, simple is hard to find.
Camping is simple. The thing about camping is that you have to find your own fun. You have to work with what you have and try make the best of it. Along the way you find yourself experiencing new journeys that you never thought you would. And you find a deeper happiness that lasts longer than buying a new pair of shoes or paying your gym contract. Nature remains beautiful throughout time and exposes an overwhelming feeling of tranquillity and peace.
