Five of The Most Extraordinary Places to Visit in The World

by Joie Schmidt on 04/08/10 at 4:54 am

Get ready to pack your bags for an experience of a lifetime!

I’ve recently been curious about what the best places to travel to in the world are. Of course, most people have heard about the 7 wonders of the world, but it’s clear from just everyday experience that there are surely dozens upon dozens of incredible places you can visit.

After some research, I decided to share a little synopsis of some of the places that ranked highest on the list and sounded like places I’d definitely love to visit. Hope you enjoy it!

The Temple of Heaven

Also known as the Altar of Heaven, this temple is located in Southeast Beijing. It was built in the 14th century by King Yongle and it took a total of 16 years to complete. In 1988 the temple was declared a masterpiece in world architectural design.

The Shwedagon Pagoda

Located in Yangon, Myanmar, sometimes called the Golden Pagoda, it is the most religious Buddhist pagoda for the Burmese people. It is believed that it has been in existence for about 1000 to 2500 years. Part of what makes the pagoda so special is that its spire is made with gold and precious gems like diamonds and rubies.

The Sistine Chapel

Found in the Vatican City, this is one of the world’s most famous chapels. It is best known for its 12,000 sq feet painted ceiling which depicts the life of Moses and Christ; a work of art that took about 2-3 years to finish. During special occasions the chapel is closed to the visiting public.

The Louvre

Paris is home to this national historic French museum. Encompassing approximately 650,000 square feet this museum holds over 35,000 items to wonder over. Find the Mona Lisa, the Venus de Milo and many other notable art pieces in this fine museum.

The Colosseum

Considered one of the greatest architectural structures in Rome, the Colosseum is a circular amphitheater that was created for dramas, gladiator events and other such public entertainment. The amphitheater can seat about 50,000 people and is used for religious purposes present day.

So, have you started to pack your bags, save your money and plan your next vacation days?
