I think a few people have not read the introduction carefully. It doesn't say Chinese people (on a whole) translate poorly, it refers to the Chinese language being translated poorly.

Although I appreciate that there isn't always an exact translation in English for many languages, when speaking another language you shouldn't just literally translate word-for-word, it needs to be adjusted. This is true when English speakers translate into other languages.

Its supposed to be lighthearted, I think many of you miss the joke.

Rememeber that the world does not revolve around 'English', at least they tried, for your sakes... if you don't get what they are trying to say... Tough!

for the menu picture, it means crab, not carp or crap,
it was supposed to mean crab eggs in a bamboo container
for those who never tried crab eggs before, its quite delicious
agree to Jared and the rest.

I live in China now, and it's not like there aren't 8 million native-English speakers around who could help translate things. The Chinese need to just learn to ask a laowai to edit their English... especially before they go spending money printing their bad English on expensive publications and signs. They just toss the Chinese in their e-dictionary and print whatever it spits out. I thought they were cleaning this up for the Olympics - but I was just in Beijing, and the Chinglish is worse than ever!

Is everybody on their periods? Just have a good laugh. Go search for Weird London Signs, hope nobody here thinks I'm being "discriminatory" towards the English now.....
