Send Yourself a Postcard

Here’s an awesome travel souvenir idea.

Most people like to bring home something to remind them of the places they visited when they travel. T-shirts, mugs, key chains, fridge magnets, miniatures of famous landmarks, you name it and someone out there’s collecting it. Go to any major tourist destination and you’re bound to see hundreds of merchandise displaying the name of the place for sale.

One that’s always present wherever you go is the postcard.

When people think of postcards, they automatically think it’s something to be sent to friends and family. But why not send one to yourself when you’re traveling? For one thing, that postmark is a clever way of proving that you really were in that city at that specific time. You can write down your thoughts about the place or who you’re travelling with then read it back later when you get home.

Postcards are dirt cheap and stamps don’t cost all that much either. If you look hard enough and skip the generic, mass-produced variety, you may find one that’s really special and reflects something about your trip. Your handwritten note adds a personal touch that will make your postcard a more memorable keepsake in several years’ time than, say, a key chain.

If you’re travelling to several cities, why not send one from each city to yourself? You’ll end up with a nice collection in no time.

So, Dear Me, or To Myself? It may get you odd looks from your mailman at first, but isn’t that part of the fun? Everyone loves getting personal snail mail, and it can’t get any more personal than one that’s from yourself!
