The Lone Traveler

Often the solo traveler is punished for booking a room for her or himself.
Travelling on your own can be as excited as you make it. You can do the things you want without having to ask any ones permission. You can visit places at your own leisure and if you meet another lone traveller you may decide to join this person for a meal, a drink or even travel along together for a few days. You don’t have to feel alone even though you travel alone. Even if you have a closed personality as myself, you can surprise yourself of the things you are able to do on your own. First of all there is all the bookings of the accommodations you need to organise. When you’re moving from place to place you will learn the tricks fast as you have to, or would you like to sleep in a box tonight. I hope it’s note raining.
What will it be a hotel or a hostel?
The obvious choice here might be a hostel. OK when you’re 18 years old and don’t mind sleeping with 7 or more snoring people in one room this might be fore you. I’ve done this many times on my own, ending up at birthday parties, playing cards and travelling on with room mates. Some essentials: earplugs. I remember a man who’d forgotten them. In the middle of the night, while I was making a drink, I met him in the kitchen of a hostel. He had two pairs of socks put against his ears, they were tight with a towel around his head. Yes it was very funny.
Clever people travel out of season
Of course you can book a smaller room and you can even book a private room. But if you think that a private room is cheaper than a private room in a hotel than you’re wrong. As a matter of fact a private room in a hostel can be twice as expensive as a private room in a hotel. For example I was checking out hostels in Dublin, it appeared that for the cheapest one I had to pay € 12.00 more for the room than for a single room in a hotel in the same street. I use a website that lists the cheapest accommodation. They charged € 1.00 extra for the room than the actual website of the hotel. Next I booked a hotel in the Big Apple, a single room for the week $ 234. 48 or € 161.00 ( this is in the Village) For the flight I spend a total of € 458.00 all in return.

That seems to be a lot of money to travel. Maybe that’s why I don’t travel. Plus I like the city I live in.

It’s not when you know the prices you pay in high season and the prices here in Ireland. It’s very cheap as a matter of fact. I’m talking about hotels.

These are some essential tips for the solo traveller. I always travel every year with my family and have never travelled alone but I’m sure the day will come when I have to and this is a good way to metally prepare yourself for the expenses.
