Traveling is an experience that cannot be compared to anything. Exploring new cultures, going to cities, towns, and villages you have never been to, tasting various cuisines; it’s without a doubt an experience. The experience is even greater if you are visiting a complete alien place, a place you have never heard of or seen before. But many don’t have the courage to travel to completely foreign destinations. If you are among those, let me tell you something: traveling to any part of the globe is very safe, unless the destination you are visiting is facing some sort of political unrest or war.
I have said it again and I’ll say it again, traveling to any part of the globe is very safe. But this does not mean that you can get footloose anywhere, anytime. Whether you are visiting a nearby city or the other part of the globe, one should always be carful. When it comes to foreign cities, one should be extra-cautious as even the slightest mistake can ruin your whole vacation. Here are some tips and tricks that you will need while traveling to foreign destination:
- Planning in advance is a must for all. This includes everything from researching on the destination you are traveling to, its attractions, local language, political situation, food, lodging, culture and traditions. To do this you need not buy one of those expensive guide books. You just need to spend some time of the net. As the net has unlimited information to anywhere. Some great sites are Yahootravel.com, Wikitravel, CheapOair, virtual tourists and Tripadvisor.
- Knowledge of local traditions, language and culture is very important. Please spend some time collection information on how to address someone, how to talk. If you are traveling to Africa, Middle East and India, ladies should always dress conservatively and PDA should be avoided.
- You may be known for your good taste in fashion but while traveling leave your fashion sense at home and wearing what the locals are wearing. Avoid short skirts, white sport shoes, don’t show off your IPod, cameras and cell phones.
- We all need maps to get around, but please do your map reading in a café or a restaurants. Its always advisable to act as if you are very familiar with the destinations. You should always try your best not to show that you are a tourist.
- Never carry your travel documents, cash, passports and so on at the same place. Before you head out from home, get a photocopy of all your important papers. In some destinations visitors are required to deposit their passports at hotels while checking in. In this case, get a written statement that your documents are with the hotel.
- Always be on alert while taking public transportation. While experiencing its nightlife, try not to get drunks or high. At bars and nightclubs, avoid drinks from strangers as there are many cases of tourist being drugged and robbed. Avoid drugs and sex.
These are some simple common tips which am sure most travelers might be aware of. Next time be careful and extra-cautious while traveling!

Be sure you are able to cancel your credit cards or block your mobile phone instantly if you lose it. Holiday-Secure (http://www.holiday-secure.com) is a company made for that purpose.
