Bahrain tops as the Number 1 Friendliest Country in the World followed by Canada. These countries are the most hospitable according to the latest survey.

Here are the complete list of the World’s Friendliest Countries:

1. Bahrain

2. Canada

3. Australia

4. Thailand

5. Malaysia

6. South Africa

7. Hong Kong

8. Singapore

9. Spain

10. United States

The result was based on The Expat Explorer Survey and was conducted by research company FreshMinds. Unfortunately, my country Philippines is not on the list of 10.

But we are hospitable, too, jayson. You should have include our country, too. I know…i know this article is based from forbes’ point of view.

Sorry indeed France was forgotten. I have been to Bahrain, people are very nice but it is a tiny country. I would like to know what this study really is based on.

What an odd list, I would be afraid to go to some of those countries. My daughter went to Poland not so long ago and found that a very friendly place, she loved her time there and longs to go back again.

If America is so unfriendly as to be #10, why do we have so many people wanting to come here? Some even die trying to gain entry. I think the survey was flawed.

Surprised Australia was on the list but not New Zealand. Guess we’re just too far south for people to notice.

It is funny if you will look back in history comparing which country has killed so much just to prove being friendly. An interesting post though.

As for the comment way above mine that if the United States is #10 in the list of friendliest countries, then why do people want to come here? Well, because the U.S is one of the richest countries in the world with good opportunities for all those who want to take advantage. People can be rude in the United States as well.

I’m disappointed that there’s not an explanation about how the survey was conducted. I have a feeling that the US got a nod just to prevent further international home invasion.

“But for expatriates, the tiny Persian Gulf county Bahrain ranks as one of the most welcoming places to work.”
I copied this from the link above given by GWitt. Thanks G.

It seems that the survey was of ‘expatriates”, a different cross section than “travelers”.

Interesting list! From my own travels I’d say Aussies are the friendliest people in the world.

J J Neuman

Dec 28th, 2009

It seems from my experience most countries have friendly regions, versus overall friendliness. In the U.S., I’ve always found the South, generally, less pressurized, with more friendliness between people versus places like New York city. I wonder if that is the same in countries I haven’t visited. I do know that Canadians, generally, are pretty friendly and fun people to socialize with.

I would like to think of the friendliest countries as being those who have an absolute custom and tradition of respecting the Human Rights of the great diversity of people that they encounter…..in the new South Africa there is evidence in their new constitution of their intended friendliness. In America we have fallen into a certain disgrace because of the American Taliban seeking to impose their personal views upon the whole of society and gathering wealth as a means to do so.

I’ve only traveled to 2 places outside my country Philippines. I met one of the friendliest people in Singapore, but we’ve met a lot of rude people in Malaysia, like totally ignoring us on our face when we were asking for directions and some took advantage of us.
