There are awe-inspiring, awesome and astounding sites to travel to in your lifetime. It depends on whether you want to travel for a cultural experience, a view of the simple life, a taste of adventure, an artistic discovery, an architectural experience, a historical perusal or to extol a breath-taking natural wonder.  These and all other reasons to travel are why you should see all the places I have selected for this article.

Anne Frank House, Amsterdam, The Netherlands – the hiding place for Anne Frank and her family in world war two, before being discovered by the Nazis. She kept a diary of the famous annex, her personal thoughts and even little stories written during this incredible time in her life in hiding.

Galapagos Islands, Ecuador – the incredible evolution of many volcanic islands, they have amazing wildlife such as 400 pound tortoises, iguanas, and endemic birds. With amazing topography, flora and fauna, it’s a natural wonder of the world.

Corcovado, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil - a figure of Christ the Redeemer is covered in a mosaic of soapstone, standing120 feet high, with arms outstretched to 75 feet, on top of Corcovado Hill. It is Brazil’s most known image throughout the world. It was made in 1931 on Corcovado Mountain, in a spectacular natural setting.

Island of Lamu, Kenya – Kenya’s oldest living town on a tiny island of Lamu with ancient Swahili and Islamic cultures. Many traditional sailing vessels show it was once a port for Arab traders. Lake Louise, Banff National Park, Alberta, Canada – a majestic, jade, gem coloured lake surrounded by sharp faced mountains in Canada’s oldest, most visited National Park. It is nestled amidst Victoria Glacier in the Rocky Mountain range. There are wild animals, pure water streams flowing into rivers from 1,000 glaciers in Banff National Park.

Shwedagon, Pagoda, Yangon (Rangoon), Myanmar (Burma) – the most popular, luxurious, detailed, gold-domed pagoda in a complex of temples with relics from 4 Buddhas. Many spires, ornate pavilions, mosaic covered columns and pagodas surround it. There are pedestals for offerings, 72 shrines with spectacular images and figures.

 Caracol, Belize – a high canopy jungle with a massive pyramid is home to 250 kinds of orchids and 700 species of trees in the forest. The Mayan temples and ruins are hidden in the dense vegetation. It’s the largest archeological site in Belize, the largest of the Maya world and the tallest man-made structure in Belize. Ancient hieroglyphics are found on alters, capstones and walls.
