Walt Disney World: A New Fantasy Land?

You heard correctly.  The beloved Fantasy Land at Walt Disney World Resort, Orlando, Florida, will be receiving a facelift!  While most attractions remain, a few are closed to make room for future improvements.   According to the official Disney Blog, a new concept design is floating around for what is said to be the all new Storybook Circus area.  This will be home to the new twin Dumbo attractions.

The two new attractions will be able to move twice as many patrons, while still enjoying a Walt Disney World classic.  Storybook Circus will also be home to Goofy’s rollercoaster.  Once called the Barnstormer, this attraction went under a minor refurbishing, but remains relatively the same.  The new iconic anchor for Storybook Circus will of course be a Big Top Tent.  Underneath the big top will be an interactive play zone for children, as well the possibility of a meet and greet with famous Disney characters.

Sadly noted, one of the classic Disney rides to close will be The Scary Adventures of Snow White.  Disney officials have confirmed that the ride will shut down, but the date remains uncertain.  This instead will be the home of the all new Fairytale Hall.  This will allow young admirers to a special meet and greet with Aurora, Cinderella, Snow White, and other Disney princesses.  Now, back to Snow White, for all you fans out there don’t worry.  Walt Disney World may have closed down the old ride, but they are building a new one.  In fact, they will be constructing an indoor rollercoaster that is set to classic scenes and songs from the beloved movie.   “The coaster will feature a first-of-its kind ride system with a train of ride vehicles that swing back and forth, responding to every twist and turn of the track,” Disney said in a statement.

Also construction has gone under way for the Beasts Castle.  Walt Disney World has planned a whole new section of fantasy land dedicated to Beauty and the Beast.  The castle of the Beast will offer extravagant dinning inside the gallery, elegant ballroom, and even the infamous west wing.  The restaurant offers seating for 550 guests and services basic lunch items during the day, and fine dinning in the evenings.  Near the Castle of the Beast you will find Belle’s Village.  Home to Gaston’s Tavern, of course no alcoholic beverages are served at the Magic Kingdom, and Bonjour! Village Gifts.  While visiting Belle’s Village make sure to check out Through the Mirror.  It’s a place where you can meet your favorite characters from this classic Disney movie.

Another Disney classic being added to Fantasy Land will be The Little Mermaid.  Ariel’s Undersea Adventures will be a brand new dark ride.  This attraction will allow guests to journey to the ocean floor with Ariel and her friends.  Walt Disney World has already begun construction on the interior tracks.  The ride will feature state of the art animatronics and special effects to help bring Ariel’s undersea world alive.

Now if you think you are going to visit Walt Disney World next week and see changes, be forewarned.  Most of the changes you will see will just be construction sites.  Walt Disney World plans to open the new Fantasy Land in sections, starting in late 2012.  The whole expansion is expected to be completed and opened by late 2013.
