Traveling

My feelings about traveling.

traveling is the best thing in the world. The summer of 2009, I went to Senegal, and I had the time of my life. I saw many beautiful houses, some buildings, and a lot of rural areas. I learned how people greet each other, and I learned about their customs and traditions. Traveling changed my way of looking at different cultures. Moreover, we have more similarities than differences. Traveling expands people’s way of thinking about different cultures.

People who travel are more well rounded than people who don’t travel. They know more about what’s happening in the world, making them a valuable source of information. Although others can argue that the information on the Internet is sufficient to learn about different cultures, and keeping up to date with current events, the Internet can’t give you a first hand experience to the ways of a different culture. The Internet is very useful, but the actual being there, feeling, seeing, hearing, touching, and tasting while you’re there is what gives you insight about a different culture. It’s what makes someone well rounded.

People that travel understand other cultures better than people who don’t travel. I used to be a person that never traveled. I was uninterested in learning about people that were not like me and I never mad an effort to understand them. After traveling, I was interested in other people’s cultures. It made me open minded. Sometimes I see things that are strange to me because they don’t resemble things in my culture. Even though it doesn’t represent my way of life, somebody else’s life involves these practices, so I don’t judge it negatively. I learn about the interesting things that I don’t know about, so that I can be a more understanding person.

Traveling can interest people in learning languages. Learning languages is essential to communication, especially when you’re trying to communicate with another part of the world. Learning a new language can help people understand their own language better, they can also teach people things about the human body they didn’t know; and it will only happen if these people decide to travel. When I went to Senegal, I learned some words and phrases in Wolof, which is Senegal’s official language. I learned that they have masculine and feminine words like in Spanish. They also have words with roots that come from the Arabic language. This sparked my interest in the interactions of different cultures and how some of their influences stay. A person that doesn’t travel wouldn’t know it. Therefore, every one should travel outside of their country at least once.

Traveling creates a world of educated people that are not closed to the world around them. People that travel know the world better. Travelers understand people better than non-travelers. Traveling can open the door to a world of language that non travelers would never know existed. Traveling is a hobby, a way to get an education, an escape in life. Traveling is everything you want it to be, so there’s no reason to not travel.
