Bacon Butties

Missing home foods whilst living abroad.
I have just eaten the most fantastic bacon sandwich. I guess that it was extra fabulous because it was the first one I’ve had in 6 months. I’m not a vegetarian converting to back to meat. I am an ex-pat living in Italy. Italy is famous for its amazing food, and don’t misunderstand me the food here is incredible. There is such a variety of pizza and pasta and meat dishes, but I still miss good old fashioned English food. I think the thing that I notice is the lack of variety in the cuisine available. In the UK I can eat Indian, Chinese, Mexican, Thai – anything really. But here in Verona it is very limited to local produce and local cuisine. When surrounded by such great quality produce, is it possible to miss Fish and Chips and Bacon butties. I think it is. I know that it is cultural and that most people would be horrified that I choose English food, but when you are alone in a foreign country, a bacon sandwich is your friend. It comforts you and looks out for you.
I love Italy, the food and the wine – I am really lucky to be here and I have found a little shop that helps me out on the darkest days!!
