Top Five American Micro-Breweries

by Walter Holstad on 14/02/09 at 4:10 am

The best tasting beers in the U.S. are micro-brews and imports. I am analyzing my favorite choices in American micro-beers.

Top 5 American Micro-brewers

1.Sierra Nevada Brewing Company. I put Sierra Nevada in the number one spot largely because of their Stout beer. Sierra Nevada Stout is dark like Guinness yet sweeter to the palette. It is also usually at least a dollar cheaper than Guinness so it is a great alternative especially on a tight budget. Sierra Nevada Pale Ale is a popular beer as well for those who like an amber beer with a stronger hop flavor. Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. is located at 1075 East 20th Street in Chico, CA. Sierranevada

2.Sprecher Brewery. I’m giving the nod for second place to Sprecher Brewery of Glendale, Wisconsin. A hometown favorite. Sprecher Amber is an excellent beer while being a fan of dark and sweet beers I love their Sprecher Black Bavarian. Only problem with the Black Bavarian is that it is 6% alcohol by volume so be careful if you have anything important to do. Sprecher Brewery is located at 701 W. Glendale Avenue, Glendale, Wisconsin 53209 Sprecherbrewery

3.Third will go to Great Lakes Brewing Company. They have an excellent variety of top quality beers. Being a fan of sweet and dark I like their Edmund Fitzgerald Porter. Great Lakes Brewing Company is located at 2516 Market Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio 44113. Great Lakes Brewing

4.Fourth on the list is New Glarus Brewing Company of New Glarus, Wisconsin. This is a beer drinker’s brewing company. These are not sweet, light beers with the possible exception of Spotted Cow. I wish they still had the Zweickel because it is like Spotted Cow but with more hops so it has a stronger, more pungent flavor which I like. Their IPA or India Pale Ale is heavy and has a very robust, hop filled, flavor. New Glarus Brewing Company is located at Cty Trk W & Hwy. 69, New Glarus, WI 53574. New Glarus Brewing

5.Fifth I’ll look outside the state of Wisconsin once more. Anderson Valley Brewing Company while pricey has great beers. Their IPA is strong yet flavorful. Their Oatmeal Stout is sweet and dark. All of their beers are excellent. They are a little on the pricey side usually but worth it. Anderson Valley Brewing Company is located at 17700 Hwy 253, PO Box 505, Boonville, California, 95415 AVBC

Honorable Mentions

These companies could all be in the top five and I apologize for that but you have to choose and so consider all of these brewing companies to be tops as well.

My list would be vastly different from yours, but the fact that you take the time to try out different brews makes your article awesome.

Yay beer!
