Here is a list of some of the world’s most expensive things to eat and drink.
In a world where almost 852 million people do not have enough to eat and live under $1 a day there are some who spend thousands of dollars for just one meal. Here are some of the world’s most extravagant menu items.
In New York, the world’s first $25,000 sundae was unveiled. Stephen Bruce topped his existing $1,000 Sundae with the “Frozen Haute Chocolate,” at Serendipity 3 in Manhattan, setting a new world record for most expensive dessert: $25,000. The golden sundae is a blend of 28 cocoas, including 14 of the most expensive in the world. It is infused with 5 grams of edible 23-karat gold, served in a glass goblet lined with a layer of edible gold. But that’s not all- at the bottom lies an 18-karat gold bracelet, housing a 1-karat white diamond. Eaten with a diamond-studded golden spoon, the sundae is topped with a rare truffle, which sells for $2,600 a pound!
At the Westin Hotel in New York’s Times Square, Executive Chef Frank Tujague has created a $1,000 Bagel. That’s right it’s topped with extremely rare Alba White Truffle cream cheese and Goji-Berry-Infused Riesling jelly. The Alba White Truffle is the second-most expensive food on the planet, while Goji Berries, a rich source of beta-carotene, and are also rather rare. The dish was created in order to help fund scholarships for culinary students.
Dubbed the “Zillion Dollar Frittata,” the ingredients include 6 eggs, 1 Lobster, 10oz of caviar, and an assortment of less extravagant items. Norma’s Restaurant of Le Parker Meridien Hotel, Manhattan, will gladly prepare you this fine delicacy, for $1,000.
In 2005, a diamond-encrusted fruitcake went on sale in Tokyo’s “Diamonds: Nature’s Miracle” expo For $1.6 Million! On display with 17 other diamond-related designs, it stole the show with over 233 diamonds, it is entirely edible, except for its shiny jewels. The sparkling masterpiece took two Tokyo pastry chefs 6 months to develop and 1 month to create.
If you order up the Martini-On-The-Rock from the Algonquin Hotel in Manhattan, be prepared to rack up an enormous bar tab $10,000. The drink requires an order 72 hours in advance, because you must first choose the diamond & ring setting you’d like to rest at the bottom of your martini glass. Forbes reports that only two have been ordered since the drink launched in 2004, one for an NPR segment, and the other for a marriage proposal.
Nino Selimaj runs six restaurants in New York, and in March unveiled the “Luxury Pizza,” which sells for $1,000 a pie, or $125 a slice. The 12-inch pizza is topped with caviar, lobster, crème fraîche and chives, among other assorted specialties. Sold at Nino Bellissima in New York, you must order the pie 24 hours in advance, as it is topped with 6 different kinds of rare caviar that must be specially ordered for the occasion.
