Beautiful Chisos Mountains Scenic Views

The Chisos Mountains are full of stunning spectacular views.
The beautiful Chisos Mountains in southwestern Texas offers travelers spectacular scenic views.

The Chisos Mountain range is located in Big Bend National Park and covers some 40 square miles and was named for the Chizos Indians who inhabited the area at one time. The mountain range is not especially tall but the surrounding countryside is generally at much lower elevations which helps create the spectacular views.

Also helping is the unique geological formations found in the surrounding areas and the Chisos Mountains themselves. Standing on top of the peaks and looking down into the surrounding countryside one can almost imagine dinosaurs and other prehistoric creatures roaming the ground below.

The views from Emory are fantastic and you can reach the summit along trails from the Chisos Basin Visitor Center right in the heart of Big Bend.

South Rim Views

The most spectacular views in the Chisos Mountain Range are at the South Rim. From the South Rim one can see well into Mexico.

The panorama views available here are really something special. Some of the most spectacular views in the United States and the world are on display at the South Rim of the Chisos Mountains.

Lost Mine Trail Views

Lost Mine Peak is the second highest mountain in the Chisos at 7,535 feet.

The Lost Mine Trail begins at an elevation of some 5,600 feet and ends at a great viewpoint some 6,900 feet high with other excellent viewpoints along the way.

Window Trail Views

The Window Trail is a 4 mile round trip hike that ends at the Window which is a high narrow canyon slot that affords spectacular views with a 200 foot drop-off where rain water drains from the Chisos Basin.
Window View Trail Views

Not to be confused with the Window Trail this is a much shorter 1/3 of a mile hike that is actually paved at the Chisos Basin and is great for watching sunsets.

Big Bend National Park is in a bit of a remote spot in southwestern Texas but the spectacular scenic views available in the heart of Big Bend from atop the Chisos Mountains are hard to beat.
