Spend a spooky Halloween in one of Arkansas’ most historic districts. Visitors to the Fort Smith-Fayetteville region this fall have plenty of haunted activities to keep them in the Halloween spirit.
A haunted Halloween awaits visitors to the Fort Smith region this autumn. As northwest Arkansas gets into the spirit of the season, a series of historic-themed and original events will intrigue visitors with their spooky happenings.
Haunted Grave Walk
Take a stroll through a haunted cemetery this Halloween and encounter the “ghosts” of those who passed on in tragedy. Fort Smith’s historic Oak Cemetery hosts a yearly haunted “Grave Walk” featuring the dark tragedies of the region’s past via actors depicting the unfortunate victims. The spooky event combines history with creative fun, as volunteers act out their roles and share true tales from the cemetery’s graves.
Dark Deeds on Display
In honor of the region’s celebrated “hangin’ judge” Isaac Parker, the Forth Smith historic courthouse plays host to a series of “hangings” throughout the year, dedicated to some of the historic cases (and dastardly criminals) which passed through his court. With plenty of gristly crimes, and legendary criminals of the early frontier, history buffs will enjoy this dark visit to the past through elaborate reenactments.
Murder and Mayhem
Take a ride on Fort Smith’s trolley line this October and tour the “Murder and Mayhem” of the old city. A variety of gruesome true stories, tragic events, and eerie legends will be told as visitors wind their way through the town once populated by violent criminals, colorful bordellos, and the grim gallows that punished misdeeds.
