Road Trip to Caddo River

by Milton H Peebles III on 25/08/09 at 2:07 am

The day was too nice to stay at home.

Caddo River

Sunday was a nice day. Mother and I just had to get out. We both wanted to find some more rocks. She wanted to find some for painting on and I needed more for my crafts. Sadly we don’t live in an area where good interesting rocks can be found. So we made a road trip. Drove over 120 miles to Amity, AR. My dad used to preach there. Then it was just a few miles south of town to the Caddo river.

It would have been nice to go on over to Caddo Gap, AR. That is where we used to go every summer for swimming and staying in a cabin. But that would have been another hour of driving.

We spent over two hours picking up rocks. We also found some driftwood. Where we were at the river it is only about two feet deep. Most of the bottom is covered in rocks and I think this is why has that sort of bubbly sound as it flows by. Talk about being so relaxing. Wish it was much closer.

Beautiful scenery. Have you ever used a rock tumbler for polishing the rocks you’ve found? I used to do it with my kids and you can really get some beautiful pieces.

Nice article. Do you use the rocks in your fairy houses?

Great article, lovely photos my heart achs for a place in the woods, just beside a running body of water.

Now that\\\’s my kind of trip. I love the woods, creeks, and rivers.

Lovely pics. River rocks — so interesting. We have creek gravel under the swings on the playground. The students are always finding “pretty rocks” to show me.
