Wow, what can I say about this particular Domino’s Pizza?
Let me start by saying that I believe in giving a restaurant three chances. It may be possible for an eatery to be having an off day or two, but I figure that if the third visit is bad, I know everything I need to about the establishment and will avoid it in the future. Such is the case with this Domino’s Pizza.
What is surprising is that I have been to other Domino’s Pizza restaurants that have been great. The San Dimas location, on the other hand, was a complete disappointment.
My first encounter with the San Dimas Domino’s Pizza restaurant was through a telephone order. I wanted to order the special at the time, three small pizzas and a 2-liter of Pepsi. Not only was the order taker rude, but they were out of small pizzas at 2:00PM on a Saturday. Weird, but I figured I would change my order to 2 medium pizzas and a 2-liter of Pepsi.
I was given a wait time of 35 minutes, and went about my usual Saturday chores. Eventually I glanced up at the clock and realized that it had been an hour, and still no pizza. When I called the store, I was told that he had left and would be at my home soon. The driver finally showed up on my porch, soggy, misshapen pizzas in hand, an hour and a half after I placed the order. To make a bad experience worse, they were the wrong pizzas and he had forgotten the Pepsi.
I called and spoke to the manager who was apologetic and promised that my next experience would be better. I’m a trusting sort, so I figured I’d give them another chance.
The next time I ordered, I decided to try their online ordering. It was down, so I wound up calling instead. This time, I figured I would circumvent the delivery problem and pick my order up from the store. Big mistake. As inconvenient as it is to wait 90 minutes at home, it is worse to wait 90 minutes in a Domino’s Pizza waiting area.
Again, I received the wrong pizzas, but at least I was at the store so that I could have it fixed fairly quickly.
Thinking “third time’s a charm,” I decided to give them one more chance. So, about a week ago I tried to place an online order for three small pizzas. They had run out of small pizzas (yet again), so I changed my order to a large pizza and an order of pasta.
After entering all of my information, I clicked the submit button and immediately received an error screen. It, in short, let me know that the order did not go through and that if I wished to place the order, I would need to call the store.
I considered this Domino’s Pizza’s last failed attempt to impress, and decided to order from a different pizzeria (a local place that turned out to be amazing).
Imagine our surprise when, 2 hours later, as we were all finishing our local pizzeria dinner, there is a knock at the door. It was the Domino’s delivery person holding an armful of cold food. He said that apparently the order had gone through, despite the clear error message stating otherwise.
So we took the food (didn’t want to get the delivery person into any trouble), and immediately called the manager (a new manager, different than the one we had spoken to during our first order).
The manager was not only unconcerned, but rude. He offered no solution to the problem and said that the ordering system is “always screwed up, and that’s not our problem, that is corporate’s problem.” Great attitude for a manager to have. Suddenly it became crystal clear why this location is so atrocious.
In short, avoid the San Dimas location if you can. This restaurant is always out of food (especially pizza, which is weird), the management is rude, and the food quality is subpar. Do yourself a huge favor – avoid this place and find a local restaurant. Trust me, you will not regret it!
