LA Eats: Broaster Kitchen
by Juhls on 09/06/09 at 5:47 am
A little eatery with history in Montebello, California (Los Angeles County).
My husband loves to indulge himself with fried chicken on occasion. And for him, no place compares to Broaster Kitchen in the Los Angeles suburb of Montebello. His family has been going there for fried chicken fixes since he was a kid. It’s a necessary nostaglic stop whenever we visit LA.
It is a restaurant with charm only a family-run place can exude. The seating area is just a small galley way and the interior is from decades past, with country-style artifacts and antiques decorating the walls. The arcade games at the entrance are the same from when my husband was a kid!

But the real reason people come to Broaster Kitchen is because of the food (of course!) and owner Gerry Monroe. Gerry opened the restaurant decades ago with her husband, Now Gerry and her son, Mike, continue the tradition. Even though I myself am not a fried chicken fan, I can say that I enjoy stopping by this restaurant just to visit Gerry. She has a reserved continence but is genuinely sweet and really knows how to prepare her chicken in this method. As for the food, the chicken has crispy skin and juicy meat, and the sides like potatoes, coleslaw, and dinner rolls are also nice additions. As for the homemade pies lined up in the glass case, they tantalize my taste buds from each time I visit, but I haven’t yet tried them… maybe next time I’ll indulge!

It’s a place I would enjoy. it sounds a lot like our Country Kitchen. they have all the old tools and cooking utensils decorating the walls, home cooked food and the good desserts.
