Pretty as a Picture

Mammoth Lakes was the vacation spot for dad and I all through the 1990’s
We never knew what might be around the next bend in the road…
Today we journeyed on Highway 395 to Twin Lakes in Bridgeport. The County had a road crew working on the road at Conway Summit. Traffic came to a halt, and grid lock ensued for about twenty minutes.
Some motorist are really goofy! They got out of their cars, set up their camera tripods and started shooting away! I admit one could not have asked for a lovelier place to be stuck in traffic. But this all looked so strange – almost comical, with tourists lining the side of the road cameras in hand or on tripods. Some who were either more daring or else a little dense, set their tripods up right in the middle of Highway 395! What they found so intriquing to demand risking being hit by the work crew I haven’t a clue. It all appeared most curious to me.
But for those who lined the edge of the roadway, what was the commanding view to prompt them to react so impulsively? A lush green meadow bordered on the south by a grove of Aspen and Birch trees whose leaves fluttered and flirted with the soft mountain breeze. All this loveliness was backdropped by purple-hued mountains; majestic and regal still wearing a cap of snow which glistened in the play of sunlight upon it.
Truly this was a post card perfect scene! It was totally entrancing. And if I would have had as much sense as those goofy photographers, and had my camera where I could have grabbed it easily, I would have joined this troupe which looked like a photography class out on a field trip to take some shots of this vista that was pretty as a picture.
