Explores a few ideas for youth visiting San Francisco.
If you are considering taking a vacation to San Francisco, there is much more to consider than just your travel arrangements and accommodation. Unless you know the district well or have friends in the area, you are likely to miss multiple opportunities. The travel guidebooks tend to be family orientated and geared toward the average visitor, leaving the young and single traveler trapped within unsuitable suggestions. Among the activities and attractions that are actually available are many suited especially to those within the years of twenty-one to forty-five. Whether single or partnered, many such choices remain outside of the average tourist guide to the city of San Francisco. Of course, you will probably want to see the sights that visitors to the city are expected to view as well, but selecting a few hidden treasures can make your trip extra special.
*Golden Gate Park*
Whilst the Golden Gate Park may feature heavily in the average tourist guide, many of the attractions within the park that are emphasized do not cater to youth. For youthful travelers with partners, there are several romantic smooching destinations such as Marx Meadow and North Lake. Hiring a boat and enjoying Stow Lake can also accomplish a certain degree of romance.
For those traveling without partners, some of the sporting activities that are often condensed into a single phrase within holiday brochures may appeal. Lawn bowls, baseball, basketball, tennis, football, handball, and golf are all situated in the park, as are tracks for jogging, cycling and horse riding. The Children’s Playground is not only for children! There are also many adult opportunities to swing and clamber about. This can be the ideal destination if you seek a free keep-fit excursion on your vacation.
* Nudist beach*
Although many of the popular Oceanside activities are also available in San Francisco, those seeking a taste of the city’s attitude of freedom can head to the nudist sunbathing and swimming beach behind the rocks, next to Muir beach. Other close-to-city beaches offer excellent swimming, surfing, fishing, bird watching, and scenic view opportunities, if you so prefer.
*Food*
If your accommodation does not provide your meals or you choose to eat at places of your own choosing, there are several handy places to grab either a snack or a meal. Many of the establishments are family centered, but others attract a predominantly youthful crowd. Those seeking Chinese cuisine can obviously head along to Chinatown, whilst those seeking sushi can find a pleasant downstairs sushi bar on Geary Street close to Macy’s. For Mexican, there are both full restaurants and taco trucks about town. The DNA Lounge and El Rincon also offer a selection of Mexican food to its customers, along with the music.
In fact, many of the live music venues around town also offer food. This can be a great opportunity to combine two activities and therefore save your valuable vacation time. Among other local nightclubs that offer both live music and food are Bottom Of The Hill, Blake’s in Berkeley, Café Du Nord, The Hotel Utah, and The Rickshaw Stop. At these venues, you are likely to enjoy both the food and the music.
*Blow Up at The Rickshaw Stop*
The Rickshaw Stop is an all age nightclub situated at 155 Fell Street. As well as live music and DJs, the venue offers customers a bar and restaurant. Most of the food options cost circa $5, and a filling meal can cost as little as $10. The Rickshaw Stop is open from Wednesday through Saturday and has a regular trendy music event much suited to the 20-35 generation named Blow Up, which is well worth a visit if you are in town when it is on. To find out what entertainment is available when you are in town, you can call the venue on 415-861-2011.
*The SF scene*
One of the main attractions of San Francisco is its culture and music scene. Although the Hippie and Beatnik era is long gone, traces remain in its town of birth. San Francisco has retained a collection of high quality underground, Indie and alternative bands well worth checking out. To sample the best of the Bay musically, you will need to check out which bands are playing where beforehand. This can be done easily by subscribing to ‘The List’ for a long-term view or checking a local music event information website such as http://dardardar.org/ or http://www.sanfranciscomusicnews.com for concerts in the month/week ahead.
Among local bands that are well worth checking out, you will find Madelia, Astral, Elephone, Veil Veil Vanish, Blair Hansen, King Loses Crown, My Revolver, and Sinister Dexter. Among the venues worth haunting that have not yet been mentioned are The Hemlock Tavern, Kimo’s, The Elbo Room, Annie’s Social Club, and Slim’s.
