Oakland Park

Oakland Park is a tiny town in Broward County that is called Floranada – a blend of Florida and Canada. The residents wisely altered the name of their town as soon as they realized that this combination was not only weird, but also not especially desirable (in addition, the town was bankrupt after it was attacked by a hurricane).

The residents wisely altered the name of their town as soon as they realized that this combination was not only weird, but also not especially desirable (in addition, the town was bankrupt after it was attacked by a hurricane).

Oakland Park is experiencing quite a little change at present – the city council is adopting new zoning regulations with the intention to turn the city center area into a charming pedestrian district. Owing to the fact that Oakland Park is in close proximity of Wilton Manors (which is undergoing a massive housing boom) property prices are growing, which has stimulated interest in their city center redevelopment. All this causes more things to see and do in Oakland Park. Even though there is not that a lot to do in Oakland Park usually, they have an extraordinary Oktoberfest.

In Florida, there are not that many genuine Bavarian Oktoberfests, particularly not on the Oakland Park’s scale. Here you might find parades, pagan dancers, musicians, traditional food. And, of course, tons of beer. For folks who are not fond of beer, they have plenty of wine (nothing declares Oktoberfest like tons of Gewürztraminer). Even for people who do not like to drink, there is enough to do. There are strudel-eating contests, Dachshund races, Polka lessons with a Contest at the end and oompah bands. In brief, it is a fantastic time, however we all know that nearly everyone come for the beer, and there is abundance of it.

What can be the better way to ring in October than in typical Munich style? Oakland Park started to celebrate this festival not so long ago, hence following Oktoberfests are going to be even better.
