Retirement in Southwest Florida

Southwest Florida is a great spot to land in retirement. Many activities are available: fishing, golf, tennis, and shopping are some of the interesting and exciting things to do with all your free time.
Retiring to Southwest Florida has many advantages besides the weather. The shopping is great and the beaches are wonderful. There are outlet malls all over the state and miles and miles of coastline. Fishing, golf and tennis are activities that one can participate in all year long. The list is very long when it comes to sports or shopping available to retirees living full or part time in Florida. Take advantage of everything Florida has to offer; you’ll be glad you did!
Fishing
Let’s start with fishing; there is both fresh water and Gulf of Mexico fishing in Southwest Florida. All local newspapers have a fishing report and tide chart. Charters are abundant and available, with experienced captains, for those who do not own a boat.
Golf
There are many public golf courses in Florida. Rates vary; public courses are more reasonable cost-wise than private clubs which have keep their courses open to the public this winter. Try several courses and decide which one you like the best. Watch for coupons in the local papers for discounted rates.
Tennis
Public tennis courts are scattered around Southwest Florida and the area has a very active tennis league starting at the beginner level through at least to the dynamo level in Lee County. This is an almost free sport and a great way to make new friends!
Baseball
Three big league teams hold their spring training in Southwest Florida. The Boston Red Sox, Minnesota Twins, and this year the Tampa Bay Rays will be holding their training in the area. The games are played outside in smaller stadiums than during the regular season and the players are friendly and laid back.
Shopping
If you are into bargain hunting there are outlet malls galore. If you want to splurge on something new, you can do that also! There are at least five malls in a less than ten mile radius for your shopping pleasure.
