Hauntings in Georgia

A little research on three hauntings.

Chickamauga Battlefield: The name means ” River of Death” in Cherokee. The Cherokee Indians knew this place. It was a bloody battle, where over 37,000 died. For months the dead remained unburied, then being placed haphazardly in trenches, unceremoniously. The battle didn’t end the bloodshed on these grounds. It’s remoteness and accessibility makes it a good place to dispose of bodies or to even kill someone.

Chickamauga sighting’s include ghostly figures like the full figure dressed in a white wedding dress of a woman, a soldier trying to surrender, a man on a horse-the man has no head, a specter with glowing eyes, long hair and fangs.

In the daylight it is very scenic, but at night it is a frightful and sinister, misty place. Chickamauga Battlefield is located in the northwest corner of Georgia.

Crybaby Bridge: At night you can hear the cries of the children that were killed on this bridge. At the edge of the woods a woman is walking.

Many people have uneasy feelings, there are cold spots and a mist forms, footsteps can be heard coming toward them from the woods.

It is said to be very spooky in this area. Even more so in the deep woods after dark. Crybaby Bridge is located in Columbus, Georgia.

Fort Pulaski:  A place known for suffering and abuse. Southern prisoners were held there, with no way to stay warm and lack of food. Many died.

In certain spots senitive people have feelings of sickness, despair, fear and misery. Some have sensed a presence standing next to them, calling their name. On the outside grounds and in the fort, entities of soldiers  on duty have been seen. Fort Pulaski is located in Savannah, Georgia.

I really enjoyed reading the blog about Mrs. Sammy King and The Haunting Near Eastman, Georgia. For those intrested in reading it go to  http://georgiamysteries.blogspot.com/2009/08/mrs-sammy-king-and-haunting-near.html           “I hope you like it as much as I did.”

I’ve heard Fort Pulaski is haunted. Not surprised about Chickamauga with all the bloodshed there.

I feel sure Fort Pulaski would feel spooky. I have often visited Chicamauga Battlefield Park This was a battlefield of the Civil war between the North and South. Many soldiers were killed and buried there but now it is a quiet peaceful place with many visitors. It’s a beautiful place and not isolated at all. It’s on highway 27 at Fort Ogelthorpe.
