My first island vacation to Honolulu Hawaii.
My first Island vacation
On July 12 1996 my family and I went on a vaction to Honolulu Hawaii. The effect it had on me was profound, and later as a inspired me to learn more about Hawaii and other Island’s around the world.
I was 14 year’s old at the time of our family vacation, in fact I had my 15th birthday on that vacation and of all that i remember that one was best. We were part of a large tour group, and got to travel all around the Island. Now before I go into details about my experience, let me give you some need to know info.
there are several island’s that make up the State of Hawaii. Kaua’i, O’ahu, Moloka’i, Lan’i , Maui and the big Island Hawaii to name a few. The capital, Honolulu is located on the Island of O’ahu “witch is where I went”
After stepping off the Plane my family was greated and we each received a Flower lei, “the famous flower necklaces” and rode in a Limousine to our Hotel. Thus began two and a half weeks or total fun and relaxation. Sence then i have continued to study and read about Island’s and other tropical places. I am not suprised why Hawaii and many other places like it are such hot travel and tourist destination’s.
There is a sence of peace, almost spirtual in a way. Right when you step off the plane its like you step in to an exotic new world. The people and culture’s are very diverse. There i encountred people from all over the world, Filipino, Japenese, Chinese and of course Pacific Islander to name a few. For me, it was a refreshing experiance to actually interact and learn from many different people.
Every Island has it’s own story, its own history. I got my first taste of that as me and my family began to explore. From Waikiki Beach to Diamond Head to visiting the Aloha Tower to Pearl Harbor. These Island’s have played a crucial role in world history and I hope to wright more about that latter. I think everyone should visit the Hawaiian Island’s at lest once in there life time. When we last visted we were part of a tour group, I think that is a good place to start because it allows you to get an overview of the main attractions. But if you would rather explore your self I would recomed renting a car and driving just dont forget to bring your GPS or road map! thats one of my plans on my next visit.
The Polynesian’s “the native people of Hawaii” were the first settlers. And there way of life and traditions still go on today. During my first visit I go to attend many Luau’s and performances by the local people. The music and dancing was amazing. One show in particular that I was most impressed was when performers would dance with large poles with the end’s on fire. It was an amazing display of talent and athletisim.
The islands have been the stage so to speak for many television programs and movies as well. One in particular Jurassic Park, we drove by a location in witch a scene was filmed. These days because of the Internet it is now easier than ever to learn more about places like Hawaii and other islands as well. All you have to do is Google it! Depending on where you live ticket prices will vary obvisouly. However there will always be travel deals out there so keep your eyes open online.
If you dont know where to start, personally I recomend Expedia.com, Orbitz.com and Travelzoo.com or check with your nearest travel agent for detail’s. I hope this information was helpful and if you do decide to visit the Island’s of Hawaii, I hope you enjoy your trip!
If you want to know more about Hawaii and its history. Continue to search online or go to your local library.
