The gentle breezes, swaying palms and clear lagoons make the Garden Isle a tropical paradise.

Did you know the original pilot for the 1960 sitcom Gilligan’s Island was filmed in Kauai.

Kauai is famed for its unspoiled beauty, Kauai is filled with emerald peaks, deep ravines, cascading waterfalls and 50 miles of gorgeous white sand beaches. It has more beach per mile of coastline than any other Hawaiian Island. Even if you have never visited Kauai Island you are probably more familiar with its scenery than you know. More than 60 films have been made here including all three of Jurassic Park movies, King Kong, George the Jungle, Raiders of the Lost Ark, South Pacific and Blue Hawaii ( the very famous Elvis Classic). Some famous notables you may see there vacationing are Drew Barrymore, Pierce Brosnan, Cameron Diaz and Matt Damon.

But Kauai is much more than just a pretty place. If you are adventure lover, you will be energized by the recreational options: rock climbing, surfing, snorkeling, sailing, horseback riding, swimming, hiking, biking and fishing. For the laid back person among us, there are countless ways to relax, from hot lava-stone massages to ambling along serene forest trials. There is Aloha Festival from September 7-16 which offer parades and shows and there is the Mokihana Festival from September 23-29 celebrates Hawaiian culture and the arts with music, hula competitions and more. If that is not enough here are five more places you should visit while vacation on the Kauai Island.

(A) The Wailua River: If you were fan of the 70 TV show Fantasy Island you will recognize these falls from the show opening credits. Another Wailua River landmark is the famous Fern Grotto, a fern drape natural amphitheater formed by lava rocks.

(B) Limahuli National Tropical Botanical Gardens: Back-dropped by the soaring Mount Makana, Limahuli rain forest and lava rock terraces form a verdant paradise. One of Hawaii last pristine waterways, Limahuli Stream, winds through the grounds. Do not miss the charming gift shops.

(C) Napali Coast: With some of the world most dramatic coastline, the Napali coast is justly famous. Daredevil brave the entire 11 mile Kalalau Trail atop the cliffs but most people are happy with just the first two scenic miles.

(D) Poipu Beach: Located on the south side coast, Poipu Beach is a superb spot for snorkeling and swimming. Very remote is nestled at the end of the west coast paved road. You may take a 10 minute hike to Secret Beach with its views of Kilauea Lighthouse.

(E) Koloa: This historic south coast town was the site of Kauai first sugar mill. Hike, bike, or drive the 10 mile long Koloa Heritage Trail with its historic stops and monuments (including Spouting Horn, a geyser that shoots 50 feet high)
