Reasons Why I Love Chicago

Whenever I go home, I try to spend time in the heart of the city.
I’m a native of Illinois, but just in recent years have I became a fan of Chicago. I love the attractions there, how busy it is, and what has offer everyday. I feel safe there knowing alot of people, and I hope one day to make it home, or at least a suburb close to it. Here’s my favorite spots, and among them, places I still want to see in the city.
Millennium Park
It’s located on Michigan Avenue and is open from 6p to 11p daily. This park is amazing, and I really enjoy going here. One of the main attractions are the face fountains that stand directly across from each other and spit water out from them, which always makes children laugh. Another feature of this park is ‘The Bean.’ It’s stainless steal structure is 12-ft high, reflecting a mirror-like surface of the city. It’s 66-ft long, and weighs over 110 tons. Underneath it it goes even higher and the people look very small inside the mirrors. This park has a lot of concerts in the summer time in the Harris Theater. It even has a place for bike rentals for those that want to enjoy the park further. If you’re coming from Oglesby Transportation Center, the 56 or 20 Bus will take you there.
Willis Tower Skydeck
I’ve wanted to go up inside this for about the past year. It’s $15 to get in, but you’re able to go up to the 103rd floor of the building. You’re then able to see Indiana, Michigan and Wisconsin–not to mention up to 50 miles of Chicago. I’d be all over the historical side of the exhibits and landmarks. It also has NASA exhibits which I don’t know if I’d go for, but I might into it. This is located on Wacker Drive, also accessible by the brown line.
Buckingham Fountain
This fountain in famous in Chicago and has four seahorses. Each seahorse represents a state that borders Lake Michigan – Indiana, Illinois, Michigan and Wisconsin. The water in the fountain represents the lake itself. The fountain stands 7 feet tall, and at night they have a light show every 20 minutes. This is one of the largest fountains in the world, powered by three pumps and 134 jets. Its water show spotlights choreography with colorful lights.
Lincoln Park Zoo
Lincoln Park Zoo is located on the north side of Chicago. They have the same animals as almost every zoo, but I especially love polar bears. I’ve wanted to go here for my last few visits home and have never found the time, so hopefully I will get to go soon. It’s still one of the places in Chicago I have yet to cross off my list, and I think it’d be really fun to take my nephew and nieces there.
Second City
If you haven’t ever seen them, then you need to go. It’s similar to the show ‘Whose line is it anyway?’ in the sense it’s impromptu and all skits. I had an opportunity to see them with my friend Mary-Beth for her birthday a few years ago and they were phenomenal. I was so disappointed when I missed them at EIU last year. They are talented performers and if you get to see them in Chicago live, that’s awesome.
Shedd Aquarium
If you have kids, this is the place to be. They’ll be all over the 70 species of animals that are contained in this museum. They have dolphins, sting rays, penguins, and sharks only to name a few. In one of the exhibits you can walk up to a circular tank and watch as experienced divers feed these fish. The building was built in 1929 on $3 million dollars, and it’s one of the best museums in Chicago. If you haven’t been here, then it’s worth a look at least once. It’s exhibits are amazing and it was a fun experience with my family.
Bennigan’s
This is one of my favorite Chicago restaurants. My favorite dish is the turkey tool, and I tried to match it on my foreman grill a few nights ago. Unfortunately, I didn’t master the recipe, but it did taste almost the same. I love how much turkey they and cheese they put into one sandwich. It’s messy, though, so you’re going to need a fork and knife to eat it. It’s a great place to dine with friends and enjoy a great time.
