Yahoo Falls Continuously in Kentucky

by Joe Dorish on 07/10/09 at 12:40 pm

While the stock price of Yahoo! rises and falls daily, Yahoo Falls drops continuously in Kentucky.

Yahoo Falls drops 113 pretty feet along the Yahoo Creek in the Daniel Boone National Forest near Whitley City in southern Kentucky.

The native Muscogee Indians named the the falls and the name has nothing to do with the Sunnyvale, Califonia based Internet company Yahoo whose founders David Filo and Jerry Yang took the name Yahoo from the famous Jonathan Swift novel “Gulliver’s Travels”.

Yahoo Falls is often referred to as the tallest waterfall in Kentucky but this is debatable. What is not debatable is that Yahoo Falls is a pretty and impressive waterfall you can hike behind if so inclined. It flows year-round but can slow to a trickle during dry spells. Just down the trail from Yahoo Falls is another tourist attraction – the Yahoo Arch where reportedly Yahoo’s senior management team hid out the last year after turning down Microsoft’s $31 a share offer.

To reach Yahoo Falls and Yahoo Arch take State Highway 1651 north out of Whitely City for about 1.5 miles and turn left onto State Highway 700. After about 3.5 miles turn right onto Yahoo Falls Road and follow signs to the trail head parking lot. It’s about a 1 mile hike to the falls.

Yahoo falls seem UNIQUE with its name, particularly with yahoo attached. So, is there Google Falls??? Thanks for the tour, :-)
