Kennebago (My Sublime Place)

The place where I feel at peace.
A place that makes me feel sublime is Kennebago Lake in Maine. I go there every summer to visit my grandparents, who have a cabin near the shore. It is a beautiful place, surrounded by mountains with small cabins that fit the picturesque scene at both ends. When I go there, it is always very peaceful. There never are more than 30 people there at any given time, and they spend much of the time fishing, reading or hiking one of the very scenic trails found around the lake. Mr. Warren has a place nearby, and it is a very special place to him too.
I love to be at Kennebago Lake, not just because of the atmosphere, but because I can do some of the things I love most there. Whether it is fly fishing on the lake, or taking a hike, or just lying in the hammock reading a book, I can feel totally at peace with the world. Most of the time I am at the lake is spent with my family members, especially my cousins, who spend a good amount of the summer there. Our cabin is a small dwelling, so I am constantly conversing with people I like. I love to enjoy great meals cooked by my grandmother at the large table, where we can discuss our lives. However, not even there am I completely comfortable, due to the fact that my older family members enjoy planning my life at the dinner table. After a long meal of hearing, “after he goes to Harvard law school…” , I like to grab my rod off the shelf on the porch, take out the canoe, and go fishing for about an hour at dusk. Here, in a secluded spot on the lake I can feel totally alone.
I love being alone at the lake. I can sit and think about anything I want without interruption. Although I love being social, and sometimes forgo doing work to sit in the dining hall at school to talk with friends, I enjoy being alone on the lake because I can feel like I have no stress at all. Sometimes I go on a hike to Flat Iron Pond, which involves a short boat ride to the opposite shore of the lake, and then a two mile long hike to a small pond that has gone largely unmolested since a glacier dug it out of the earth long ago. Here there is a canoe that can be paddled out to the middle of the pond, where there is a fishing hole where a good number of smaller sized trout dwell. This fishing spot is my absolute favorite place on Earth. Here, I can feel like I am the only person on Earth. I can just sit and think about anything; my hopes and dreams for the future, my regrets of the past, or anything on my mind in the present. I can just sit back and appreciate the beauty of the place.
If I had to remain in one place for the rest of my life, it would be Kennebago. Every time I’ve been there, it has been the same. In the world, everything changes. People, places, friends, family members, and countries. But I like to think that Kennebago will always be a constant for me.
I spent most of my summers of there and it’s a great place where i always feel at peace and at home
