Salem Massachusetts: Halloween’s True Home

Salem, Massachusetts, best known for the infamous Witch Trials, proves to be a great destination for Halloween. Amazing costumes, great food and spooky decorations and a chilling history make Salem a must-see Halloween experience.
If you’ve never made it to Salem for Halloween, you’re in for a treat. The costumes are outrageous. Everywhere you turn there are delicious treats to sample. The town welcomes visitors from around the world, opening up the many cult shops, food stands, restaurants and bars for the pleasures of a Halloween crowd.

Salem’s macabre history attracts some oddballs and untraditional thinkers. Shop after shop offers up crystal balls, spell books, candles and every other witch-related trinket that comes to mind. Ironically a town with such open-thinkers of the witch variety is the very symbol of religious persecution and mob-thinking. So it gets a bit eerie as you peruse the kitschy little corner stores, buying up armloads of spooky what-nots. This town may be just the perfect place to ponder All Hallow’s Eve.

Historical meaning and confusion aside, the crowd Salem attracts on Halloween brings it! Sure, there are some garden variety costumes and even some folks in plain clothes. But there is no shortage of eye-candy! From street entertainers to fellow guests of the town, costumes will wow kids and adults alike. Afterall, isn’t this holiday all about raising those little hairs on the neck? A good scare delights lovers of the holiday, and Salem’s got plenty of scary characters running around!

Not all of the costumes are good because they’re scary. Some are good because they’re elaborate, clever or absolute works of creative engineering!

Salem’s New England charm, witchy history and welcoming community make it an absolute adventure for those that love Halloween. Make it a point to visit next year. Parking can be rough, so be prepared to walk. Dress up and be a part of what makes this a great place to be on Halloween.
