Lighthouses are a thing of beauty with their history and their strength. The author shares an interesting and fun trip to see one of them in Upper Michigan. Michigan holds the record for lighthouses in the United States at over 116. Many more stories to come in My Travel Adventures!

It’s hard to remember everything about the day we went searching for the Crisp Point Lighthouse in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. It turned out to be one of the most fun trips we took.
On this adventure, we decided to go across the Mackinac Bridge and tour some of the lighthouses that weren’t too far out of our way. The goal was to end at Tahquamenon Falls State Park. We knew about the Crisp Point Lighthouse, but didn’t think we were close enough to even think about it. We had a lighthouse book that we used for our travels. At that time in my life, I was into lighthouses, and I lived in the perfect state for that! The season was summer, 2001. The quaint red and white Round Island Lighthouse in Lake Huron is one of my favorites, and it was the first one we came across on the trip. We didn’t need to stop and photograph it this time, because we had done so on an earlier trip to Mackinac Island. In fact, I took so many pictures of it; you’d think I’d never want to see it again. Not true, though, for I don’t know what it is about its appeal, but I would go tomorrow if I had the chance. One thing I do know is that it draws me in each time I see it.
We always had fun on our travels. If you’ve been up past the Mackinac Bridge, you know it gets quite desolate, although there are things to do if you look and have a plan. One thing you can do is climb to the top of Castle Rock which is about 200 feet above Lake Huron. You can even see the towers of the Mackinac Bridge. The Soo Locks are about 53 miles from Mackinaw City on Highway 2. You might think you’re driving to never, never land, but just keep going you’ll get there! Once you’re finally there, you can find a number of things to do. Since we were there before, we decided to go on toward the falls.
